Poland Spring

  • Poland Spring is the bottled water company that belongs to Nestle company

  • Water comes from fresh spring in the state in Maine and the company is known to have sold their bottled water directly back to the state of Maine as well

    • This means that they are avoiding having the FDA regulate their bottled water quality (and they are most likely to be avoiding the FDA approval intentionally)

  • Company was sued in 2003 when they were accused of falsly advertising their bottled water

    • The sue claims that the company is simply selling heavily treated groundwater

    • The suit argues that Nestle's claims of Poland Spring as "found deep in the woods of Maine" and "exceptionally well protected by nature" intentionally deceives customers about the true nature of the sources, most of which are surrounded by asphalt parking lots or potentially dangerous contamination

    • Also: Sue claims that Nestle expanded production of Poland Spring water, the company began digging supply wells and using nearby groundwater, much of which had high potential for contamination (Scranton Gillette Communications 2014)

  • Company denies any claims of their water being contaminated but never provides evidence about their bottled water.
